Switzerland Sanctions 11 More Venezuelans, Including Delcy Rodriguez

BERN -- Following the presidential elections on 20 May 2018, "which were neither free nor fair, and had a large deficit of legitimacy," the EU placed 11 more Venezuelans under sanctions, says Switzerland's State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

On March 28, 2018, Switzerland's Federal Council had adopted sanctions measures against Venezuela in line with the EU.

Switzerland now adds another 11 Venezuelan officials to the Swiss sanctions list.

Venezuelans have put billions in funds into secret Swiss bank accounts, according to data released by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and leaked by an HSBC whistleblower in 2015.

According to the data, Venezuela had US$14.8 billion in HSBC accounts in Switzerland between 1998-2007. That was more than any other country except Switzerland (US$31.2 billion) and the United Kingdom (US$21.7 billion).
