JAKARTA – The Ministry of Social Affairs is providing counselling on the prevention of pornography to students in schools, colleges, and within the community, Indonesia's Antara news agency reported.

"We visited a number of schools to familiarise and promote pornography prevention," the ministry's head of Social Counseling Centre, Tati Nugrahati said on Wednesday.

The pornography prevention programme conducted at 154 state secondary schools is in the form of counselling and group discussion with games, as well as joint pledge to stay away from pornography.

The students were also encouraged to utilise the social media to gain positive input and useful knowledge for them in the future.

The counselling was conducted in cooperation with the Indonesian Committee for the Handling of Pornography and Porno-action, Movement Not Naked in front of Camera Movement, and the Pornography Prevention Task Force.

Nugrahati said there should be counselling for the school students and society so that they can wisely use the social media and not to abuse for negative things.

"We understand that elementary to high school age children are vulnerable to pornography so that we start the counselling from the school environment."

The Tetra Pak Index 2017 shows that Indonesia has 132 million internet users and about 80 per cent are active users of the social media.

Indonesia ranks sixth out of 25 countries with the most internet users in the world in 2018.
