Pix: Topnews.inMUMBAI: More than 42 million Indians have fallen victim to cybercrime in the last 12 months and costing the country Rs 42,000 crore in losses, according to a leading software security agency.
Norton said in its latest report that 56 percent of Indian adults have experienced cybercrime with over 80 victims per minute and more than one every second.
As many as 66 percent of adults in the country have been victims of cybercrime at least once in their lifetime, Press Trust of India reported.
The study is based on findings of over 13,000 adults across 24 countries.
Globally, 18 adults fell victim to cybercrime every second with more than 1.5 million cybercrime victims every day and losses reaching US$110 billion.
The report also found criminals were increasingly focusing their efforts on social networks and mobile devices compared to the previous year.
About 22 percent of social network users have reported of their profiles being hacked, and 15 percent had become victims of a scam or fake link on their social network platform.
"Cybercriminals are changing their tactics to target fast growing mobile platforms and social networks where consumers are less aware of security risks," said Symantec Asia director and internet safety advocate Effendy Ibrahim.
