Galaxy Note 9 Leak 'Confirms' Samsung's Massive Upgrade

Plans for the Galaxy Note 9 were incredibly ambitious and, while there have been serious setbacks, the latest reports reveal Samsung’s secret upgrade strategy for the phone is simple: make everything massive…

Predictably, it is the ever-prolific, ever-reliable leaker Ice Universe who takes most of the credit. So let’s break down the bigger-maybe-means-better changes Samsung will make with the Galaxy Note 9’s most important features:

Biggest Samsung Display - The Bell actually takes credit for this, revealing Samsung will enlarge the Galaxy Note 9 screen to almost 6.4-inches. It’s only a small increase from the 6.3-inch Galaxy Note 8, but still the largest mass-market panel Samsung has ever fitted into a smartphone.

Greatest Storage - Ice Universe notes Samsung will offer the Galaxy Note 9 with up to 512GB of storage, double its previous record. Combined with a microSD slot, this phone will push its potential capacity well past 1TB.

Biggest Battery - The Galaxy Note 8 was rightly criticised for its meagre 3,300mAh battery and the Galaxy S9 Plus only improved on this slightly at 3,500 mAh. But now Ice Universe points out that, thanks to clever camera positioning, the Galaxy Note 9 will be the first mass-market Samsung phone with a 4,000 mAh battery.

Most RAM - Samsung previously topped out its phones with 6GB of RAM in both the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S9 Plus, but the Galaxy Note 9 will be the first Samsung phone with 8GB of RAM.

Biggest Front Camera - Surprisingly, Samsung reused the poor front camera of the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 in the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, but the Galaxy Note 9 will change this. It has a much larger front camera than I’ve seen Samsung fit before. This should mean larger pixels capable of taking in more light and therefore improving some woeful low light performance.

Needless to say, all these increases won’t be enough to please everyone.

This is because Samsung U-turned on the Galaxy Note 9’s most exciting upgrade and its design won’t set pulses racing, especially after Ice Universe exposed Samsung’s untapped design capabilities (above).

That said Samsung is clearly determined to make the Galaxy Note 9 a ‘massive upgrade’ by most measure and for that, it should be applauded. Even though we know the truly huge changes start next year…
