Without divulging their identities, PABN acting secretary Abu Hanapah Ismail said IWF confirmed the three athletes were found to have taken the banned substance, Stenozolol based on urine tests taken on March 28.

IWF, a statement issued through its official website on Tuesday, disclosed that the three national athletes found to have taken the prohibited drug were Muhamad Hakimie Haikal Nordin, Muhamad Zaidi Mohd Nordin and Ronny Jesos.

“I received the report yesterday, they (athletes) have been informed about the matter and have been suspended until sample B (of urine test) is received in the next seven or 14 days.

“They are all male athletes and only one of them is a senior athlete,” he told reporters at a special media conference at the Malaysia Organising Committee (Masoc) of Kuala Lumpur 2017 office, Bukit Jalil here today.

Earlier the PABM confirmed Gold Coast Commonwealth Games bronze winner Mohamad Fazrul Azrie Mohdad failed his doping test early this month.

Realising that the federation might face suspension by IWF following the rising number of doping cases, Abu Hanapah said PABM would conduct an internal investigation after obtaining information from the hearing of the three athletes’ case.
