SEPANG: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is in talks of establishing the Malaysian League (M-League) Most Beautiful Goal Award in the National Football Awards ceremony in the near future.
FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah said the move will add to the vibrancy of the M-League on top of encouraging all the players to follow in Mohd Faiz Subri’s footsteps by striving to score impeccable goals.
He added that this can also facilitate FAM to choose the best goal for future FIFA Puskas Award nominations, Berita Harian reported.
"Today we already have the National Football Awards and maybe we can add another category which is the Best Goal Award for the M League.
"There might be more wonder goals like Faiz’s and in the event that it happens, we can propose their names for the Puskas Award in the future,” he conveyed at a press conference at KLIA yesterday.
FAM will also reward Faiz with a RM50,000 incentive for his physics-defying goal.
The footballer came home to a hero’s welcome where hundreds of Penang and Kedah fans gathered at the Penang International Airport to greet him at 9:15pm yesterday, greeted him with a ‘doa selamat’.
“I have to thank the Malaysians who prayed for my success and voted for me.
“The media also played a role in this win and I thank them for their support,” Faiz was reported saying upon his arrival from Zurich.
Congratulations once again Faiz, and welcome home!
