LONDON: Manager Roberto Mancini cannot wait to unleash Manchester City’s ‘Invincibles’ strike partnership on Arsenal at Etihad Stadium today, The Sun reported.
Argentine pals Carlos Tevez (right) and Sergio 'Kun' Aguero (left) have started just nine competitive games together in 14 months.
But the Premier League champions have won all nine of them, scoring a hatful of goals in the process.
Aguero is in line to return in the crunch clash with Arsenal after five weeks out with a knee injury.
And Mancini is looking forward to seeing them resume a partnership which promised much during pre-season.
“It is right that they have not been able to play together much. I do think they can play together and they are both Argentinian. This is why I was upset when we lost Aguero for four games," he said.
“It was important to have his qualities at the start of the season — he’s so quick and strong in the box.”
Aguero had such an impressive first season in English football without much help from his countryman Tevez.
Former skipper Tevez spent much of the campaign on the sidelines after his Munich bust-up with Mancini a year ago this week.
He then spent three months AWOL in Argentina while his pal continued to rattle in the goals.
Aguero became the first City striker in a decade to hit 30 goals in a season, leaving fans wondering what might have been if his pal had stuck around.
Goalkeeper Joe Hart believes there is a spark between the pair and said: “It works, there’s no doubt about that.
“You saw that at the end of last season and the way they played pre-season proves it as well.
“They look sharp. When Carlos came back last season it was like getting a new signing. And it’ll be nice to have him back for the whole year hopefully.
“They spend a lot of time with Pablo Zabaleta. They call themselves the Three Amigos.
“But you can see that they are happy in their little group, that makes a big difference.”
Mancini is keeping his cards close to his chest over whether the two Argentines will be his first-choice pair for the big games.
“Maybe, but we have four strikers who can all play — Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko too," said the Italian.
“So it’s not a problem who will be first choice.
“We had a good chance to buy another striker but up front we didn’t have any problems.
“We wanted to keep our strikers because if we scored a lot of goals last year we can also do the same this year.”
And he believes Aguero’s outstanding first season — which culminated in that memorable title-winning goal — is just the start.
“Sergio is young. He’s 24 but every year he scores a lot of goals," said Mancini.
“In England it’s more difficult to score in the first year but he did very well last year and we hope he can improve this year.”
