If there is one word that could change every woman’s mood, it is polygamy. I bet every woman in this world does not want to share their loved ones with other women. It’s true that there are women who can manage at sharing their husbands but, deep inside their hearts, the feeling of jealousy still exist.
In Islam, polygamy is allowed and practiced under certain restricted conditions. Muslim men are allowed to have more than one wives at the same time, up to a total of four. However, some activists say the practice is cruel and that it has been distorted from its original purpose during the days of the Prophet which was to protect widows and orphans.
Somewhere in 2009, Polygamy Ikhwan Club was launched in Sungai Petani, Kedah. The club was founded by Ashaari Mohamad who used to head Al-Arqam that was banned in 1994 as heretical because it projected Ashaari as an absolver of sinner.
Most of the Polygamy Club members belonged to the sect, and there’s nothing illegal about how they live now so long as they are Muslims. In 2009, the club claimed that it has collected more than 1,200 members.
The objective for the establishment of the club is to prove to society that polygamy is beautiful if it’s being applied with the right intention that is not against the teachings of Islam. Besides that, it also intended to defend the right of single mothers.
Some of the Polygamy Club activities are to fight for the rights of single mothers and orphans, establishing charity homes, give counseling and motivation, to create Taqwa fund, organizing marriage courses, match making and provide requirements for the welfare.
One thing is for sure, the establishment of the club is certainly not well accepted by women in this country. Therefore, my advice to women out there is to take good care of your husbands or boyfriends so that they will not have any intention to join the Polygamy Club. |
