Sabahans Applaud Malanjum's Appointment As New Chief Justice

KOTA KINABALU -- The appointment of Tan Sri Richard Malanjum as the new Chief Justice of Malaysia is a recognition of his commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the integrity of the Constitution, said Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.

He said Malanjum’s appointment was very apt and demonstrated the commitment of the new Chief Justice to serve the people and the justice system based on the Constitution.

“On behalf of all Sabahans, I wish to congratulate him and that we are very proud of his appointment. We also hope he will be able to carry out his duties as Chief Justice wisely,” he said in a statement here today.

Meanwhile, Sabah Law and Native Affairs Minister Datuk Aidi Moktar said Malanjum’s appointment as the Chief Justice was an honour for the people of Sabah.

“He (Malanjum) is qualified to hold office as the new Chief Justice and we are very proud that Tan Sri is a Sabah native. We, the people of Sabah, are very grateful and wish to congratulate him with his appointment,” he told reporters after attending state Islamic agencies’ Aidilfitri open house at Wisma Muis here today.

Yesterday, Malanjum, 65, who is former Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, sworn in as the new Chief Justice replacing Tun Md Raus Sharif who will resign as the Chief Justice, effective July 31.
