MAF Seizes 240 Kg Of Ketum Leaves Near Padang Terap

ALOR SETAR -- The Malaysian Armed Forces through the Second Battalion of the Royal Rangers Regiment seized 240 kg of ketum leaves worth  RM21,600 that were believed to be smuggled to a neighbouring country today.

Sixth Brigade commander Brig General Abdul Aziz Ismail said the seizure was carried out near the Sahara Post, near Padang Terap at about 11.30am.

He said the ketum leaves were found to have been placed in nine white sacks that were hidden in the bushes to avoid detection.

"A total of 1,250 bundles of ketum leaves worth around RM21,600 were found in the sacks and brought to the Kuala Nerang Police Station for further action," he said in a  statement today.

Abdul Aziz said the patrol squad has been urged to remain constantly vigilant and tighten security measures even in the month of Ramadan as smuggling activities were believed to increase with its high demand in the neighbouring country.
