EC: Narayanan's Name To Be Struck Out From Electoral Roll

PUTRAJAYA : The Election Commission (EC) upon verification, will strike out the name of the dead from the electoral roll for the 14th general election (GE14).

EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the commission could not simply delete any names without death verification from the National Registration Department (NRD).

"Following the issue of MM Narayanan Nair s/o T.Narayanan Nair, who died in 2003, but still listed in the electoral roll, we will take immediate action to strike out his name.

"The EC has checked and discovered that his name had never been taken out from the electoral roll since he was registered in 1994.

"In this respect, claims indicating that his name had been deleted before and reinstated following GE14 is untrue," he said.

It was reported that Narayanan's daughter had lodged a police report regarding the matter at the Teluk Ayer Tawar, Seberang Prai Utara, Penang yesterday (April 25).

Narayanan’s `resurrection' had gone viral when the matter was highlighted by the daughter who had urged everyone to check the status of their loved ones that had passed on.

The daughter was reported to have alleged that her father's name was not listed in the electoral roll when an online check was made last year, but his name re-appeared this year.
