KUALA LUMPUR: ‘He was a loyal friend and he stood firm with his decisions.’

This is how former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin described Tan Sri Sanusi Junid, who died suddenly today at the age of 75.

"He was intelligent and knowledgeable. (He) would fight for you.

"He was full of ideas and always ahead of his time.

“I last met him three weeks ago," he added.

Sanusi, who was a former Agriculture Minister and the Kedah Menteri Besar, died at his son’s residence in Pantai Dalam before dawn. The cause of death has yet to be ascertained.

He will be buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery after Friday prayers today.

According to Sanusi’s son, Akramsyah, his father was waiting for the Subuh call to prayer when he died.

“He was fine yesterday. Indeed, he received his medical check-up results yesterday, and it was clean.

"He also attended the Pakatan Harapan manifesto announcement yesterday. There was no sign (of any ill health) at all," Akramsyah said when met at his residence earlier.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) supreme council member said that his father’s body was discovered by his mother and brother.

Sanusi’s remains have been brought to the Saidina Umar Al-Khattab Mosque in Bukit Damansara for prayers. He will be laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery later.

Members of the public can pay their last respects at the mosque between 11.30am and 12.30pm.

Sanusi was appointed the National and Rural Development Minister in 1981, and the Agriculture Minister in 1986, before holding the post of Kedah Menteri Besar from 1996 to 1999.
