BN Official Speaks Out Against Selangor Redelineation Exercise

MCA Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) deputy chairman Ch'ng Soo Chau said the proposal to redraw the border of the P106 Petaling Jaya Utara seat will only dilute the unique characteristics of the area.

He said that under the redelineation, the number of voters will increase to roughly 150,000 people, making it one of, if not the, largest constituency in Malaysia.

"We strongly feel that any constituency should be confined to around 100,000 voters.

"There shouldn't be too many or too little voters in an area," he said at the EC objection hearing, held at the Concorde Hotel here.

Under the proposed redelineation, Petaling Jaya Utara will be renamed Damansara and will include three state seats under it, instead of only two presently.

The number of voters would also be increased significantly from the current number of 85,000.

Ch'ng said the redelineation would make it difficult for an elected MP to manage such a big constituency in an urban area.
