SHAH ALAM -- The fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) is able to generate 1.5  job opportunities with 60 per cent of them requiring skilled manpower services, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot.

As such, he said people should realise that the need for an employee to have the skills and upgrade them in the long run was vital to seize the various job offers already and would be available through IR 4.0.

He said so far the country’s new skilled workforce sector has reached 31 per cent compared with the government’s target of achieving at least 35 per cent skilled workers by 2020.

“The target is as a platform to make Malaysia a developed nation. Hence we strongly emphasize on how to develop human capital through the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET),” he told reporters here today.

He said some sectors in the country still lagged behind for practising the ‘old way’ compared to other ASEAN countries that had started adopting digital technology, robotics and automation in line with IR4.0.

Earlier, Riot  presented the Level Three Malaysian Skills Certificates to 100 participants comprising staff of Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (Proton) in a graduation ceremony at the Proton Centre of Excellence here.

Also present was Proton chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong.
