KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 – Asia’s largest spelling bee is set to rock Kuala Lumpur with 57 students from  Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and China competing in the Qooco Asia Spelling Cup 2017 finals on Sunday at the Intercontinental Hotel, here.

The contestants would compete for one of the six winning places, three for the primary level competition and three for the secondary level, said a statement issued here today by the Singapore based Qooco, the leading mobile learning solutions provider and the organiser of the spelling bee.

The event involved over 400,000 students in the region, each vying to become Asia’s best speller. The pre-selection round took place in the respective countries on 14 Oct, via the mobile application Qooco Arena.

Into its fifth edition this year, Qooco uses the power of mobile to improve the spoken English language skills of language learners, anytime, anywhere. The preliminary round tested the students’ English language skills through an intense six-segment round that involved numerous listening, speaking and spelling tests, designed by world renowned English language experts.

Last year’s competition saw the Malaysian team win for the first time the two first place positions, the statement said.

First-place winners will win $2000 USD (RM8400), second place winners will win $1000 USD (RM4200) and third place winners will receive an iPad. Finalists will be provided an all-expenses paid return trip to Kuala Lumpur, inclusive of accommodation, food and travel.

The Qooco Asia Spelling Cup 2017 will be live streamed via Facebook Live, available to view via the Asia Spelling Cup Facebook page, @asiaspellingcup, on Sunday 12 November 2017.
