KEPALA BATAS: Two hundred police personnel from the North Seberang Prai district police are on standby to face the second wave of the storm which is expected to hit the state.

North Seberang Prai district police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the leave of police personnel have been frozen, and they are on standby to rescue people who may be trapped in the floods.

"However, we hope it will not happen for the sake of Penangites and the state," he told reporters at the district police headquarters here today.

He said police have yet to receive police reports on break-ins during the flood disaster.

Norzainy said police had carried out patrols to ensure homes left empty during the disaster were not broken into.

On Wednesday, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said according to a Meteorological Department forecast, the second wave will likely occur before the end of the monsoon transition period.

"Judging from the situation, I predict that it (transition period) will drag on until the end of this month, as current weather conditions are unpredictable," he said.
