KUCHING: The late Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has been laid to rest at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery today.
His coffin was lowered into his final resting place at about 2.38pm, as family members, ministers, dignitaries and members of the public looked on.
Army and police personnel carefully buried the late chief minister before the final prayers were carried out.
The funeral, which was widely covered by news agencies from all over the country, was also open to the public, which packed the cemetery since early this morning to pay their last respects at both the Petra Jaya State Mosque – where Adenan’s body lay in state before being buried.
A tangible atmosphere of grief and sorrow hung heavy in the air, as mourners openly wept as the burial commenced, with many wiping away tears as the final prayers were read.
Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, Adenan’s widow, also could not hold back her tears as the proceedings went on.
