KUCHING: The Matang police station at Mile 5, Jalan Matang, will be fully operational next month.
According to Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan the police station would however operate only during office hours and would be manned by officers from Padawan District police.
“We are currently waiting for a letter from the state Land and Survey Department,” said Aidil when met during a police patrol at Sungai Maong Bazaar yesterday.
He added that once the letter was released the main proposal would be forwarded to Sesco and Kuching Water Board to connect electricity and water supplies to the three-storey shoplot which would house the police station.
Once operational, the police station would provide Matang folk convenience when lodging police reports or dealing with police matters. They would not have to go to the nearest police station in Batu Kawa.
In Sept 2015, former deputy state police commissioner Dato Dr Chai Khin Chung revealed that the new police stations under proposal included Matang Jaya, Senadin and Taman Tunku in Miri.
