State Of Mourning Declared In S’wak Following Death Of Adenan

KUCHING: A state of mourning for seven days, beginning today, has been announced following the death of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, while speaking at a press conference here earlier today, added that all state flags will be hoisted at half mast during the period.

Adenan will be laid to rest at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery after the Zohor prayers tomorrow.

Members of the public can pay their last respects to the late chief minister at the state mosque in Petra Jaya starting at 10.30am.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is expected to arrive in Sarawak to pay his last respects as well tomorrow.

Tomorrow (Jan 12) has also been declared a public holiday to observe Adenan’s passing.

Adenan, 72, was appointed chief minister on Feb 28 2014.

He was also Tanjong Datu assemblyman.

Also present at the press conference were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and state secretary Tan Sri Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani.
