KUALA LUMPUR, 22 FEBRUARY, 2012: Himpunan Hijau 2.0 Committee today expressed their disappointment to receive an official reply from the Majlis Perbandaran Kuantan (MPK) that their application to use the MPK field this Sunday have been denied.

jack_wongIts chairperson, Wong Tack (pic) said the MPK letter did not give any specific reason for the rejection except that Himpunan Hijau 2.0 must obtain a letter of support or permit from PDRM before their application can be considered.

"We urge the Prime Minister Datuk' Sri Najib Razak to keep his promise to approve the peaceful assembly, which is now being denied by the MPK," said Wong.

"We remind Najib that if the promise to allow the rally is now overruled by a local council, the Malaysian public would either question their authority or their integrity in approving the rally," he added.

Wong said, the twist of event is dejavu to Malaysians, reminding them how the Prime Minister promised Bersih 2.0 the liberty to use any stadium and then locked down the city of Kuala Lumpur to prevent people to gather at the Merdeka stadium.

He added that Najib must now instruct MPK and the police to give full cooperation to Himpunan Hijau or people will question who is more powerful in determining the right to use the field, MPK President Datuk Zulkifli Yaacob, Najib or the Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.

"Are the Prime Minister and the MB so powerless that even an appointed president of municipal council can ignore their decision?" Asked Wong.

"If the Prime Minister and MB cannot even be trusted on a gathering site, can the Malaysian public trust their guarantee on the safety of the Lynas Plant?" He added.

Wong said, regardless of the political game of the Prime Minister and the MB, Himpunan Hijau 2.0 will be held as scheduled at 9:30am this Sunday.

He said, if the MPK field is blocked of and occupied, people joining the rally will nevertheless gather around the field.

"We will not back off," he said.
