Moderate Earthquake Hits Southern Sumatra

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 FEBRUARY, 2012: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck Southern Sumatra, Indonesia at 3.14pm Wednesday.


The Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement said the earthquake occurred 31km south of Sumatra, 31km southwest of Bengkulu, Indonesia  and 631km southwest of Pontian, Johor.

The was no tsunami threat, it said.
