KUALA LUMPUR, 31 JANUARY, 2012: The Coroner's Court inquest into taxi driver Baharudin Ahmad's death during an illegal assembly on July 9 last year, was told today that he had died of a heart attack.
Baharudin's eldest daughter, Dr Ummi Mirza, 25, informed the court that Kuala Lumpur Hospital pathologist, Dr Khairul Anuar, who had conducted a post mortem on Baharudin, told her that her father had died of a heart attack.
However, Ummi, who is an intern at the General Surgery Department of the hospital, admitted she did not agree with the cause.
She also said the doctor noted that there were no bruises on the body.
Apart from that, Dr Khairul also said her father had died at the Avenue K building, where he fell unconscious, said Ummi.
During examination-in-chief by DPP Kalmizah Salleh, Ummi, the inquest's fifth witness, said she saw her father when he was brought into the emergency ward.
The doctor who attended to him then informed her that her father had died before reaching the hospital, she added.
"The doctor explained that my father's status was BID (Brought-in-Dead)," said Ummi.
Later in the proceedings, the sixth and seventh witnesses, two police officers, Supt Zahari Mohd Yusoff and Insp Shamsubahrin Kadir, testified that the situation in the vicinity of Kuala Lumpur City Centre was calm and controlled on the day of the assembly.
They said the Federal Reserve Unit did not use either the water cannon or tear gas at the location.
The family of the late Baharudin was represented by counsels Ahmad Jufliz Faiza, Chan Chew Weng and Ahmad Zamri Assad Khuzaimi.
The inquest resumes on Thursday before Coroner Zulkpli Abdullah.
