JOHOR BAHARU, 19 MARCH, 2012: A printing factory in Desa Cemerlang industrial park here was razed in a fire today with losses estimated to run into millions of ringgit.
Johor Raya Fire and Rescue Station operation chief Syed Nasir Syed Abu Bakar said the fire destroyed 60 per cent of the factory's store and production areas. However, all workers escaped unhurt. "We received the distress call at 2.43pm and 30 firemen from Johor Raya and Larkin were rushed to the scene," he told Bernama when contacted here. Syed Nasir said the cause of fire and the actual amount of losses were being investigated. Meanwhile, a worker, Mohd Zahid Razak, 38, said he believed he heard an explosion at the store area before the fire broke out. "Some of the workers tried to put off the fire, but to no avail," he said, adding that the factory, which has been operational for over 20 years, has over 60 workers.
