KUALA LUMPUR, 19DECEMBER, 2011: Adam Adli Abd Hamid said he will not apologize for his actions of lowering the flag of Umno President Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Putra World Trade Centre last Saturday.
“I will not apologize to the Prime Minister. “I just want to apologize to my family and friends who shared the trouble after being threatened by gangsters and thugs,” said Adam. However, Adam (left) said he and all the university students are willing to apologize only if the government repeal the AUKU. “We will apologize if the government decides to abolish the act like we wanted,” said Adam. The second year student of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris created controversy after he was accused of lowering down a flag which displayed the face of Umno President Datuk Seri Najib Razak at PWTC during the roundtable talk on the amendment of AUKU hosted by Deputy Minister of Education, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah. Adam had lodged a police report at Bukit Aman earlier today after being constantly threatened by those whoe were not pleased with his action. He said that since Saturday, he and his family had received numerous threats through blogs, social sites, SMSes and phone calls. “Not only have I been accused of being Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's gay partner in blogs, I also received death threats by calls and SMSes,” said Adam. Solidarity Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) Pesident Badrul Hisham Shaharin (left), who is also known as Chegubard who was present at the media conference said that he is dissapointed with the actions taken by Umno and its Youth Wing that had used thugs to address the matter. “The threats that came from Umno thugs are ridiculous, it is unacceptable” said Badrul. “What kind of a country are we living in today where thugs and mobs were used to address political matters,” added Badrul. Meanwhile, former chairman of Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM), Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin said that the society should have not reacted emotionally regarding this matter as it is clear that the university students are fghting over something that can move the country forward. “Don’t get emotional over the matter, face it realistically,” said Shazni. “If Umno and its Youth Wing cannot accept the flag lowering incident, there is always a space for debates and intelectual discourse. Nothing is going to be solved by posting such threats towards Adam,” he added. SMM Chairman Ahmad Shukri Abdul Razak said the incident should be seen as a clear message from students to the Prime Minister. “Let it be a clear message to Prime Minister Najib that he should seriously listen to our voice, the voice of the people, "said Ahmad. Meanwhile, a commotion happened when a man, Roslan Mokhtar (right) tried to attack Adam during the press conference. Roslan who were at first seen having a conversation with Adam suddenly tried to jump and punch Adam, but SMM members managed to stop the man. When interviewed by Malaysian Digest, Roslan said that he is not with any Umno thugs and had come to Bukit Aman on his own to find Adam. “I am working alone, I am a Umno member, but not their thugs, I am here to teach the kid (Adam Adli) a lesson since he is so rude at the PWTC on Saturday,” said Roslan. “I just cannot accept his action of lowering down the Umno President flag. We are Malays, we have our customs, this is all about dignity. “You don’t just simply go to someone’s house and start throwing out their belongings and put in yours, do you?,” he added. Roslan also said that the students should stick to their studies and stop being used by other people who are planning to destroy the country. “My advice to this kid is focus on your study. Do realize that you are being used by people who want to create madness in this country. If he is too young to understand that, I am willing to ‘teach’ him,” added Roslan.
