Ex-Wife Says AC Mizal's Offer Unreasonable | Print |

KAJANG, 29 JULY, 2010: AC Mizal's ex-wife Shafnie Zainuddin today told the Syariah Lower Court here that his offer to settle out of court the committal case against him for neglecting to pay maintenance arrears for their two children was unreasonable.

Shafnie, 34, a model and marketing manager of Casa Impian Holdings Berhad itu, also denied claims by the popular actor, whose real name is Mizal Zaini, that he had settled the arrears, which amounted to RM50,000.

Shafnie said she had evidence to back this.

On the offer (for the commital case to be settled out of court), Shafnie asked Syarie judge Abdul Halim Abdullah to give her some time to think it over and also discuss with her lawyer as she felt it did not appear reasonable.

Abdul Halim also reprimanded Syarie counsel Siti Aishah Din who is representing AC Mizal, for delaying the case, saying :"How many times are you going to say this case will be settled amicably. By right, today I am supposed to receive the submissions so that I can evaluate them."

He then set Aug 26 for Shafnie to give an answer and if no agreement was reached, both parties were to submit their submissions.

Earlier, syarie counsel Ridhwan Husin, who represented Shafnie, said though today's hearing was to determine whether the actor was to be committed to jail for ignoring the court's order to settle the maintenance arrears of his children, the respondent had sent a letter stating that the RM50,000 had been settled in instalments of RM500 since November 2009.

The couple were married on June 24, 1995 and have two boys, Muhammad Shafiq Iman, 14 , and Muhammad Shabil Iman, 11. They divorced on Oct 17, 2001.

Based on the court's original order, AC Mizal,38, was ordered to pay child maintenance of RM2,000 a month, but he failed to keep up with the payments leading to the arrears reaching RM50,000.
