Seven Lodge Police Report Over Sand Mining | Print |

KUALA SELANGOR, 29 JULY, 2010: Seven residents of two villages here have lodged a police report claiming that sand mining operations were threatening their safety.

The residents, from Kampung Bestari Jaya and Kampung Kambing Susu, lodged the report at the Bestari Jaya police station, claiming that the sand mining operations were conducted too close to their villages occupied by more than 7,000 people.

One of the seven, Yeop Mat Sanip, who is chairman of Kampung Bestari Jaya Development and Security Committee, said he feared the use of a sand suction pump would result in a natural disaster in the area.

"The sand mining operations can be harmful not only to the villagers but also students of Universiti Industri Selangor here," he said.

Another villager, Mohd Nazeri Nor Mohamad of Kampung Kambing Susu, said the sand mining had caused a bund of the Selangor river to burst and damaged nearby farms.

Kuala Selangor police chief Supt Mohd Taib Ahmad confirmed having received the report.
