KUALA LUMPUR, 29 JULY, 2010: The High Court will decide tomorrow, on the rightful administrator of the late Tan Sri Syed Kechik Syed Mohamed Al-Bukhary's RM400 million estate.
Judicial Commissioner Lee Swee Seng ordered two parties to file in a witness statement in the form of an affidavit and oral submissions tomorrow, before he made the ruling.
The court will decide whether Syed Kechik's son from his first marriage, Syed Gamal and his stepmother Puan Sri Sofiah Moo Abdullah, or Sofiah and her daughters, Puan Sri Sharifah Zarah and Sharifah Munira, would be the administrator.
Syed Gamal's lawyer Pawancheek Marican said this to the media after court proceedings here today.
Earlier today, the court was set to give its decision on Syed Gamal's application to enter a caveat to be joint administrator of his father's estate to restrain his stepmother and stepsisters from managing the estate without first consulting him.
However, Lee ordered both parties to file witness statements as evidence before he made the ruling tomorrow.
Apart from Pawancheek, Syed Gamal was represented by Zulkifli Che Yong and Azmi Tan Sri Mohd Rais, while Steven How Chee Hong and Uma Parvathy represented Sofiah, Sharifah Zarah and Sharifah Munira.
In the caveat application filed on April 14, Syed Gamal, who is Syed Kechik's only son with Zainab@ Eshah Abdullah, said that as the heir and legitimate son, he was a joint administrator of his father's estate.
He named himself caveator and Sofiah, Sharifah Zarah and Sharifah Munira as petitioners.
The feud over the estate began after Syed Kechik died of heart disease on April 10, last year, aged 80.
Syed Kechik was the father-in-law of Al-Bukhary Foundation chairman Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary, a billionaire listed as one of the richest people in the country.
Syed Gamal, 46, filed the caveat after his step-mother and step-sisters petitioned for a letter of administration on Syed Kechik's estate property.
In their petition filed on Sept 15, last year, they said that since Syed Kechik did not leave a will, they needed a letter of administration as his legal wife and children.
