Up To The Authorities To Investigate Anwar PDF Print

KUALA LIPIS, 20 MARCH 2010: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic)
said he leaves it to the authorities to investigate claims by Datuk Seri Anwar
Ibrahim that he had the blessings of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to execute his
"September 16" plan to take over the federal government in 2008.

Najib said the authorities would decide whether the claims by the opposition
leader infringed any laws.

"The authorities know what to do. It's up to them," he told reporters after
opening the Rural and Regional Development Ministry's 50th anniversary at
Dataran Lipis near here today.

Two days ago, independent Bayan Baru member of parliament Datuk Seri Zahrain
Mohamed Hashim revealed in the Dewan Rakyat that Anwar had convinced opposition
MPs that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was waiting to confirm the number of Barisan
Nasional (BN) MPs joining the opposition.

The prime minister said he believed the people were now aware of the lies being
spread by the opposition and their huge ambition to rule the country.

Commenting on the statement by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik
Mat who described Zahrain's revelation as innapropriate, Najib said, "It seems
that only one person is saying so."

Earlier in his speech, Najib said he hoped that people in rural areas would not
be easily hoodwinked by people claiming to be fighting for them.

"Lies are being spread around. To them, there is justification to everything,
including name-dropping, claiming that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the
military were on their side, as long as they can go to Putrajaya.

"Our mission is different, that is to fight for the people. The Barisan
Nasional (BN) will continue to fight for the people," he said.

Najib said the people should judge for themselves the BN's commitment in
developing the country either in towns or in rural areas.

Meanwhile, in KLUANG, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said
the ministry would leave it to Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail to
investigate claims pertaining to the so-called "September 16" plan by Anwar.

He said Anwar can be investigated under the law for instigating.

"I believe that when this issue was revealed to the public, the AG would
look at it from the point of views of the law," he told reporters after visiting
Taman Sri Lambak police beat base.

Former Chief of Defence Forces Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal has denied claims
that the military supported Anwar's takeover plan.

Hishammuddin said he had heard rumours that Anwar had claimed that he had the blessings of the Agong and support of the armed forces but did not think there was any truth to it.

But his views changed when Zahrain revealed the matter in the Dewan Rakyat, he said.

"The revelation showed that Anwar did make such a claim. This is irresponsible of him," he said.

On amendments to the Internal Security Act (ISA) and related laws, he said, it was to put in place a holistic legislation to deal with security issues in the country.

He said the ministry had no problem tabling the ISA amendment in the current session of the Dewan Rakyat provided the other related laws were also ready for tabling.

Meanwhile, in KOTA BAHARU, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Zahrain's revelation showed that there were attempts to undermine the country's peace.

He described the matter as "an embarrassment to the people and country" and could jeopardise the effort to further promote harmony among the people.

"The revelation showed that there were certain quarters out to undermine the government which is elected by the people," he told reporters after opening an entrepreneurship seminar.

He said his ministry was working hard to promote investment to the country and it would be unfortunate if these were sabotaged by certain groups.
