500 Arrested for Corruption Last Year PDF Print
  

KUANTAN, 16 MARCH, 2010: Five hundred people were arrested last year for corruption of which 38.2 per cent were civil servants, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Management and Professionalism) Datuk Zakaria Jaafar said.

 

Of the total, 191 were civil servants including two in higher management and 29 from the professional group.

Others arrested were 107 civilians, 180 from the private sector and 22 politicians.

 

"Of the total, 176 have been brought to court including 89 civil servants, 46 civilians, 27 from the private sector and 14 politicians," he told reporters after a duty handover ceremony for the Pahang MACC director here today.

 

Datuk Sutinah Sutan, who previously held the post, has been promoted as MACC Deputy Director-General (Prevention). Replacing her is former Selangor MACC Director Moh Samsudin Yusoff.

 

Zakaria said most of the arrests were for giving bribes (294 cases), accepting bribes (108) and making false claims (50).
