Three Men Detained Over Kindergarten Attack | Print |

JOHOR BAHARU, 13 MARCH 2010: Police have detained three men in

connection with the hammer attack on a kindergarten in Muar on Wednesday.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan said the suspects,
aged 25 to 39, were picked up in Muar this morning.

"We believe that one of them is the main suspect. Investigation of the case
is ongoing," he said after the launch of the community police post at Taman
Bestari Indah by Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman here today.

He urged the public to assist police in identifying the assailant which the
media reported to be mentally ill.

A man armed with a hammer attacked three children at Tadika Sinario in
Lorong Haji Ali, Jalan Abdul Rahman, Muar on Wednesday morning.

Nur Nadhirah Nabilah Mohd Yusri, Alex Tan Jia Yi, and Vincent Tee Hui Seng,
all 6, suffered head injuries. A teacher was also injured.

On Community Policing, Musa said it was a strategy to check crime with
cooperation of the public via the establishment of residents associations.

The government had approved 90 mobile police stations in an effort to
increase police presence.

He also proposed that 4,000 police administration staff be deployed for
policing work.

Meanwhile, Abdul Ghani said 130 community police posts costing RM86 million
would be set up in Iskandar Malaysia.

He added to complement the project, 1,000 closed circuit television (CCTV)
cameras would be installed at 15 hotspots.
