Gerakan Urges UMNO not to Accept Zulkifli PDF Print

PENANG, 10 MAR, 2010: The Penang Gerakan has urged Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership not to accept Kulim-Bandar Baharu member of parliament Zulkifli Noordin as a member.

Its chairman, Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan, said Zulkifli was sacked by PKR for his unwillingness to subscribe to multi-racialism.

"Accepting him into Umno and BN will not augur well for BN as a moderate and multi-racial coalition serving the interests of all Malaysians,”  he said in a statement today.

Dr Teng, who is also Gerakan vice-president, pointed out that Zulkifli had led a noisy protest to disrupt a Bar Council 'Conversion to Islam' forum in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 9, 2008.

He said Gerakan was perturbed over a statement by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that Umno’s door "was always open to anyone wanting to become its members”, including Zulkifli.

Zulkifli was expelled from the PKR last Saturday, and became an independent member of parliament to continue to serve the people.
