Malaysia's Easy Path At 2018 AFC Futsal Championship

KUALA LUMPUR – The national futsal squad, ranked eighth in Asia, is expected to face an easy passage past the group competition at the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Championship in Taiwan in February.

This was following the tournament's draws, which were made today, where Malaysia was voted with Vietnam (fifth in Asia), home side Taiwan (17th) and Bahrain (21st) in Group A, according to

Group B was regarded as a deadly group which had Asia’s second-best team, namely, Japan with Uzbekistan, which is ranked third in Asia, as well as Tajikistan and South Korea.

Meanwhile, defending champion and also Asian giants, Iran was voted in Group C along with Iraq, China and Myanmar, while Group D had SEA Games Kuala Lumpur 2017 gold medal winner Thailand, Lebanon, Jordan and Kyrgyzstan.

The two best teams of each group will advance to the quarter-finals of the biennial tournament which was entering the 15th edition.

For the record, the national squad had not yet succeeded in getting past the group stage in 11 previous outings.
