2 Former Aides Of Shafie Apdal Remanded To Help Probe In Abuse Of Govt Funds In Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR: Two former aides of former minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal have been remanded for six days to facilitate investigations into the misappropriation of public funds in Sabah.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) sources said the remand was issued by Putrajaya magistrate’s court on Thursday.

A source said the commission arrested the duo earlier on Thursday at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

"They have been remanded until Tuesday,” the source said today.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki confirmed the case when contacted but declined to divulge details.

So far, 13 individuals have been arrested, including Shafie, following the embezzlement amounting to RM1.5 billion from the funds of the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, between 2009 and 2015.
