Police Nab Trader In Possession Of Syabu Worth RM488,600

GEORGE TOWN – Police have arrested a suspected drug dealer and seized 6.98 kilogrammes (kg) of syabu worth RM488,600 in a raid on a condominium at Pulau Tikus, here last Tuesday.

Penang police chief, Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye, said acting on information and intelligence gathered, a police team raided the 43-year-old man's house at 6.50 pm and seized three plastic bags containing syabu.

"On checking the unit, police  found 6.98 kg of drugs and it was learnt that the suspect had been using the house to store and pack the syabu before selling them to buyers," he told a press conference here today.

He said investigations also revealed that the man who is trader received the drug supply in substantial amount from a syndicate selling illegal drugs before re-packing them in small quantities.

He said the drugs were packed into herbal tea sachets to prevent detection and the suspect was believed to have been involved in the activity for the past four months.

“He was tested positive for drugs and will be remanded until Oct 23 to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act,” he added.
