A baby dolphin died on a beach in Argentina after it was paraded around so that tourists could take selfies with it.

The young Franciscana dolphin, which is a vulnerable species with only 30,0000 left around the world, was pulled out of the ocean at the beach resort of Santa Teresita in Bueno Aires last week.

The unsavoury actions were captured by a beach-goer, Hernan Coria, who took pictures of people manhandling the baby dolphin.

Tragically, the baby dolphin was later dumped on the beach after it died for being out of the water for too long.

The Wildlife Foundation in Argentina later issued a public notice to remind people about the vulnerable species.

"The Franciscana, like other species, cannot remain for much time outside of the water, it has thick fatty skin which gives it heat and means that taking it out of the water rapidly causes it to dehydrate and die.

"This occasion serves to inform the public about the urgent necessity to return these dolphins to the sea as soon as possible if they find them on the shore," it continued.

"It is fundamental that people help to rescue these animals, because every Franciscana counts now," the statement concluded.

British comedian and actor, Ricky Gervais, who came across the viral news was so incensed by the tourists thoughtless act that he took to Instagram to express his outrage over the incident.

He posted a screen-capture of the news headline with the caption, "Stupid c**ts".

We couldn't agree more.
