Parents ‘Locked Boy In Animal Cage’

CALIFORNIA - A couple have been arrested for allegedly keeping their 11-year-old autistic son in an animal cage.

Police say the Californian boy may have been locked in the cage — described by officers as a large dog kennel with a mattress inside it — for years.

Officers were called to the house in Anaheim — the home of Disneyland — after child protection workers received a tip-off that a child was being kept in a cage, KTLA News reports.

The boy, who cannot communicate, has been taken into protective custody with his younger brother and sister, Anaheim police spokesman Lieutenant Bob Dunn said.

The children’s parents — identified as Tracy Trang Le, 35, and Loi Vu, 40 — have been arrested and booked on suspicion of felony child endangerment and false imprisonment.

The boy appeared clean and did not have any visible injuries, according to police.

“Perhaps because of some of the outbursts that occurred because of his autism ... the family was having difficulty coping with that and controlling that,” Lieutenant Dunn said.

“Putting him in that cage may have been a way for them to try to, in their way, control what was going on.”
