KUALA LUMPUR: The best 16 players identified at the 1Malaysia Mamee Trophy Football Tournament will get a golden opportunity to train for a week at the Manchester United Soccer School (MUSS) in Old Trafford, England.
Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia chief operating officer Ung Su Ling said the initiative was in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's call to provide opportunities for the younger generation to acquire knowledge and experience through cooperation with leading clubs in the world.
Su Ling said a selection would be held during the final of the Under-19 tournament at the Institut Penilaian Negara (Inspen) Stadium in Bangi, Selangor, on March 2.
"We will invite a former National coach to do the selection of the players based on endurance and skills," he told Bernama, here, today.
Apart from undergoing training at the MUSS, players would also be presented with an opportunity to watch English Premier Club Manchester United in action at the Old Trafford Stadium.
The players will also have an opportunity to attend a football coaching clinic conducted by Manchester United's legendary footballer, Quinton Fortune, here on Feb 25.
The tournament which was held according to zones that were divided into five regions comprising North, Central, South, East and East Malaysia, since November, featured 80 teams in total.
Each region saw 16 teams selected by the state football associations competing for places in the grand final.
The champion and runner-up in each region, (10) in total, will feature in the grand final on March 2.-- BERNAMA
