Boy From Melaka Dies After Playing Video Games

(MELAKA):  A boy in Melaka died of epileptic complications yesterday believed to be a result of spending an excessive amount of time playing video games.

Twelve year-old Muhammad Azmin, who was diagnosed with epilepsy, was discovered motionless in his bed after playing an online game at his home in Masjid Tanah, Melaka.

His mother, Rose Nani, 42,  only realised her son was dead when she went to check on him, only to find the body of his son lying motionless, with his eyes discoloured and fingers cold to the touch, and  purple.

It was known that he had frequented a cyber cafe almost daily after completing his UPSR examination two months ago.

The boy's brother, A Zimin, 13, said his brother goes to the nearby cyber cafe at 7am every morning, only to return home at 7pm. He stayed at home as he was feeling uncomfortable on that day.

"Amin is going to die"

The deceased's younger brother said  that on Monday, while playing video games at the cyber cafe, Azmin suddenly felt unwell but continued playing. Later that night, his brother came down with a fever but refused to see a doctor because he was afraid of injections.

Azmin, he said, even said to his mother, "I am going to die."

Rose Nani said that her son did not go to the cyber cafe the day before but instead chose to stay at home playing video games. It was only about half an hour later that she found her son dead in his room.

Azmin's father, Ha Luding, 40, along with the family immediately rushed Azmin to the Alor Gajah hospital but he was declared dead at that evening.

According to autopsy reports,  the cause of death was epilepsy sepsis, a brain condition that caused meningitis.

Azmin's UPSR exam results was 2As, 2Bs and 1C.
