Today We Celebrate You, Teachers

For making us realise our capabilities, for encouraging us to keep studying, for never giving up on us when the going gets tough, for making us put effort into our work, for spending hours coming up with ways to make lessons exciting, and for always trying to be a good mentor even if you never felt adequately appreciated; today we celebrate you, teachers.

Back in primary and secondary school, memories of performing on stage in front of the entire student body and organising class parties for our beloved headteacher was always what we as students looked forward to each year.

Along the corridors and hallways, teachers beam with pride as tears of joy stream down their faces as their students, no matter how difficult they may be, join in celebrating and show their appreciation towards them.

Today, 16 May is the day we will all take the time to acknowledge the hard work and effort all teachers have done for us. No matter how old or young you are still, we must always be grateful to all those educators who touched our lives along the way.

While the unfolding political drama dominates our headlines, it is heartening to see that many Malaysians have not forgotten this special day and have taken to social media to share their well-wishes for all educators.

Not least is former Deputy Education Minister Datuk P Kamalanathan and now former Member of Parliament who had worked tirelessly in the education portfolio since his appointment did not forget to share his appreciation in a heartwarming tweet to all teachers today.

From being seated in the classrooms of our nation's primary school to the august lecture halls of a local university not too long ago, Syed Saddiq, who was only just elected as Member of Parliament of Muar and Youth Chief of BERSATU, also took to social media to record his thanks in an open letter to all teachers, expressing his intention to visit 10 schools in Muar today to personally convey his well-wishes.

Malaysia’s sweetheart singer, Najwa Latiff had also expressed her gratitude in a charming video clip, thanking and wishing all teachers ‘Happy Teacher’s Day’.

Joining the stream of well-wishers to our nation's teachers today is none other than local celebrity and successful entreprenuer Neelofa, who took the time to give all teachers a shoutout on Twitter.

And finally, our former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, also took to Twitter to record his thanks to the nation's teachers, reminding us all that our teachers’ passion for knowledge is the driving force for our future generation so we should be grateful for all that they do.

With that thought in mind, we at Malaysian Digest would like to wish every teacher, Happy Teachers’ Day! Today is all about you and we hope you will continue bearing the torch of knowledge for our future generations.

Thank you and Happy Teachers’ Day!
