Minister's Misspelled Name On Live Broadcast Goes Viral, RTM Apologizes

Shah Alam - After a serious blunder in spelling a minister's name, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has apologised through their official Facebook page.

The TV channel made the blunder yesterday when spelling Datuk Seri Azalina Othman's name, writing it as Dato' Seri Azalina Bin Othman Said, instead of the correct 'Binti'.

A sceen capture of the public broadcast soon went viral in chatrooms like Lowyat.net as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department was in Parliament yesterday to meet with representatives of social media providers over the proposed fake news laws.

"RTM sincerely apologizes for making a mistake in spelling Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in The Prime Minister's Department during the live telecast of the Parliamentary session this morning," said RTM in their statement yesterday.

The mistake was made when the live telecast panned to Datuk Seri Azalina, as she was answering questions from other minister regarding the National Human Rights Action Plan (NHRAP).
