Yesterday, several news outlets in Malaysia reported that the Kelantan Royal Palace has revoked former prime minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad's title. The title, 'Darjah Kerabat (DK) Al-Yunusi Kelantan was received by the Pakatan Harapan's (PH) chairman back in 2002.

In response to the revoking of Mahathir's title, Syed Saddiq, the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (PPBM) Youth chief, decided to question the Sultan of Kelantan publicly why he decided to punish Dr Mahathir.

But instead of observing royal protocols, Syed Saddiq chose to forward his queries to the Sultan of Kelantan using a video on Twitter.

In the video, Syed Saddiq, wearing a white shirt and a songkok, questioned why did the Sultan of Kelantan punish Mahathir, instead of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the current Prime Minister.

Syed Saddiq also claimed in his video that Datuk Seri Najib Razak is known as a kleptocrat and corrupt leader.

Naturally, Malaysian netizens were not happy about this.

Most of them shared their consensus that what Syed Saddiq did was not proper, and disrespectful towards the head of the state of Kelantan.

They also said that this shows that Syed Saddiq had no respect or knowledge for the ceremonies and etiquette involved in addressing Malay royals, which certainly does not include an open letter lacking in courtesy or decorum posted on Twitter.

Tunku Dara Naquiah, daughter to the late Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Ja'afar had previously written about the royal protocols when meeting a member of the royal family in Malaysia Tatler detailing the ceremonies and etiquette involved in addressing the Agong and reigning Sultans of the land which you can read here.

So far, there has been no further follow-ups to the video posted by Syed Saddiq.
