What were you doing when you were 11 years old?

One girl now has to mother a baby at 11, who’s her 14-year-old’s brother child.

The girl gave birth to a baby boy last Friday at Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital in the city of Murcia in south eastern Spain.

Daily Mail reports she was admitted with 'stomach pains' and was unaware that she was pregnant.

Though the girl had been impregnated by her elder sibling when he was 13, because he is below the age of criminal responsibility, under Spanish law, he will not face any criminal proceedings.

Regional Health authority boss Manuel Villegas stated that they are currently conducting investigation into the matter, because there was no evidence to suggest the two siblings had not had consensual sex.

“We have to wait now. An investigation is still ongoing and when everything has been clarified, we'll see what has happened and if we can help in some way,” he said, adding that further DNA tests will be conducted to confirm who the baby's father is.

Incest is getting more common in the world we live in today, and the rise of cases in Malaysia alone is alarming.

Just yesterday, a man was charged for attempting rape and faces charges for incest with three of his nieces between the ages 6 to 17 years old, one of which he had sexual intercourse with.

Last year, Sarawak recorded the highest number of teenage pregnancies with a total of 12,482 cases – which attributes to the sexual crimes committed against children and teenagers.

Sarawak Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah had warned the public, failure to inform the police of the crime or the intention of any person to commit sexual offences against children is breaking the law under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, and if convicted they will be liable to a fine not exceeding RM5,000.

“I call on any person who has information about the heinous act to come forward and report the matter to the police immediately. The cooperation of the community, including parents, is very much needed to reduce the number of incest cases in the state.

“On top of that, we do not want to see the victim suffering alone if there is no action taken against the culprit,” she stressed.

Let this be a reminder to all that if we do our part and act swiftly, we could save an innocent victim from this horrendous crime.
