Labuan Airport Records 24,500 Passengers This Week

LABUAN -- The number of passengers passing through Labuan Airport is expected to soar by 36 per cent this week.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) Labuan manager Ahmad Fikri Samsudin said the jump was driven by the four approved additional flights for Kuala Lumpur-Labuan-Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the mid-term school break and Hari Raya celebration.

"Passenger movement during normal season is only 15, 880 paxs per week and we expect a big jump in passenger handling this week until the final week of school break," he told Bernama today.

Air transport is the main connectivity from the duty-free-island to the peninsula and Miri, Sarawak, while ferries (ro-ro and express ferries) remain as an important alternative connectivity to mainland Sabah.

"We will do our part to ensure our service is at par as it is important to attract more domestic and foreign tourists to the island, and hopefully repeat visitors,” he said.
