Turkish Airlines To Purchase 40 Boeing 787-9

CHICAGO, Sept 23 -- Boeing announced on its website on Thursday that Turkish Airlines intended to purchase 40 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

The two sides have signed a letter of intent on the deal on the same day. It is estimated that the deal will be worth US$11 billion when finalised.

"The 787 Dreamliner is the most technologically advanced airplane in the world," a Boeing press release said.

"Our intent to purchase these Dreamliners is to meet the demand for wide-body airplanes, further strengthen our fleet capacity and to enhance passenger satisfaction."

Boeing and the Turkish Government also announced a Boeing Turkey National Aerospace Initiative, designed to support the growth of the Turkish aerospace industry, in conjunction with the targets set by Turkey's Vision 2023, a list of goals released by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
