The airport said passenger numbers rose 5.7 per cent to 3.1 million in August compared with the same month a year ago.
That is the largest number of total August passengers on record, Sydney Airport said in a statement.
Domestic traffic rose 4.9 per cent to 2.1 million passengers while international passengers rose seven per cent to 993,000.
Chief Executive Kerrie Mather said domestic passenger numbers were up for a third straight month as local carriers added more flights and seats.
There were also big increases in the number of passengers from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, China and India in August, Mather added.
